This is the first beer I have had since going Gluten Free and it's a full bodied red! Canadian based....hope I can get it back home. I also ordered the Lobster & scallop risotto and it was awesome. Between the wood fire grilled taste of the scallops, the buttery flavor of the lobster and the creaminess of the risotto, I was in taste bud heaven! If ever in Maine again, I will eat here again!

By far our favorite meals during our visit to Bar Harbor and the only place we went back to for a second dinner. We sat at the bar both times because there was a wait and we didn't have reservations (it fills up quickly so definitely call ahead). You can get the full menu at the bar. The bartenders were super nice and there is an extensive draft list including a lot of local beers. Also a good selection of wines and cocktails. For our first trip we had the poutine for an appetizer and then the steak tacos and the pulled pork tacos. Everything was great. The poutine is done a little differently than traditional poutine, using duck fat fried fries and duck gravy, but it was delicious and a great way to start off the meal with some beers after a day of hiking in Acadia. The tacos were also really good, the meat was tender and the toppings were well put together and tasty. The next night we shared the strawberry watermelon salad which was fresh and had a really nice fruity sort of dressing that was satisfying but still light at the same time. I had the bacon wrapped bison meat loaf and it was fantastic. It was a cool, rainy day and it was the perfect dinner for the conditions. A big bacon wrapped hunk of meat loaf on top of mashed potatoes with mushrooms and duck gravy. It was just awesome. We also had the fig ricotta pizza and it was also great. It had prosciutto on it as well and the cheese and figs combined for a rich, buttery sort of flavor. Definitely recommend it. The only minor criticism we had for this place was that the hostess seemed a little weird. I don't think rude is necessarily the right word, but she was a little short with us in person and also when we called to try to make a reservation. I thought maybe it was just me, but I overheard another couple seated next to us talking about her as well. The rest of the staff and the service were great though and I would certainly still go back if I'm ever in town again. Great place.

I've gone to this place 3 years in a row while visiting Bar Harbor. I'm always satisfied with the unique food on the menu. I'd say this restaurant is different than most of the others in town. The inside has the feel of a trendy restaurant in New York City. It gets quite crowded, and you end up staring at the people next to you, so we prefer to sit outside. They have unique offerings like Jamaican Hanger Steak Tacos, a Kobe Beef sandwich, bison meatloaf, and duck fat fries. The fries are some of the best I've ever had. They aren't afraid to get creative with their menu. If you're an adventurous eater, you'll like it here. As I said before, they get very creative with their food. The duck appetizer is really good. Very avant garde. I really like the calm-yet-trendy vibes of this place. It's relaxing and modern. I'll go back next year.

We deserved the 6 sliders, pizzas one slice left, turkey burger fries in duck fat w truffle salt and organic chicken salad on top of a beautiful bed of local greens tomatoes and yes Jordyn made me switch out the goat cheese for feta. Wait was long. Ran out of the pork belly.

Amazing fries, lobster roll, atmosphere and the customer service Josh gave us was great!!! You can sit inside or out. Great menu and super selection of local brews. Speciality drinks were on point.

The New England clam chowder was really tasty - loved it. My summer risotto was flavorless so I practically used all the salt and pepper on the table. We are usually big fans of mussels and those were just ok. They should cook them in the sauce but instead they put it on the side. I wouldn't come back but others seemed happy with their crab cakes, fries and lobster.

We were walking past just taking in the sights when we were drawn in by the wonderful smells of the wood fire and food being served! The bartender was very helpful and recommended a couple of great tasting beers! Our appetizers came pretty quickly (shrimp cocktail and their cheese bread). Both of them were great the smoky flavor on the bread was the champion. The special was a 12oz strip with mushrooms, broccoli and mashed potatoes. Yum. The chef prepared it med rare and the flavor was spot on! They have a great selection of drinks, food, and fun. A definite stop on our next trip!!

Delicious crab cakes! Although small (2), they were well worth the $14. My companion got a roasted red pepper, garlic and pepperoni pizza that was tasty also. We shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio that the waitress helped us choose that paired well with the crab cakes. Overall service was friendly and efficient despite our lack of judgement on time. As we left we noticed we were the last ones in there & she was still very kind. Would definitely go back!

Nice selection of beer. Pizza was good (as compared to pizza from NY). Dogs are welcome on patio but it's pretty tight. Staff was great.

This place was ok; strange, a little too uptight and not really up my alley to be quite honest. Bar Harbor strikes me as a laid-back old-school town, and this place simply does not fit-in to my perception of Bar Harbor. The cheapest food on the menu is duck fat fries for $6. Otherwise, be prepared to spend $15-$30 per item, unless you stick with desserts and appetizers. I got a chocolate chip sundae ($7) which was good. Overpriced, but good nonetheless. My friends got some Thai chili and sriracha wings. The Thai chili tasted like teriyaki and the sriracha wings really packed a punch. They were really good, but it's 8 wings for $10 (and I'm more of a $.50 wing at a bar guy). This place did boast a vast selection of draft beer (with a special gluten-free section), wine, and ciders. And the drinks were fairly priced. Service was ok. The server we had was nice, but it seemed like a forced nice. I like to judge a server's quality on how many times I get my water refilled without asking, and he never came to refill our waters. If you want good service, I would go elsewhere. Side note, the men's bathroom is in the kitchen. My whole party found that really bizarre (and is that even sanitary/legal?) Overall, this is an ok place. But since you're in Bar Harbor, you can do way better.

Had a great experience at Blaze, and now wish I would have tried it previously. Better late then never. Awesome atmosphere, great food, generous portions, and really good service. The duck fat fries were amazing, ordered with the side of duck gravy which was totally worth the modest up charge. Thirty beers on tap, lots of choices, what else is there to say. We ordered the Hanger Steak Carne Asada Tacos and the Duck Burger, both were awesome. If you leave Blaze hungry, it's your own fault. Can't wait to come back and try the wood fired pizza next time, it looked great.

Staff accommodating, poutine and charcuterie were delicious. My husband and dad had Pork Belly Sliders had too much fat and they were not impressed.

Been to Blaze a handful of times over the past 3 years and went back and forth over whether to give it 3 stars or 4. The place I visited several times the two summers prior to this one is certainly worthy of 4 stars - delicious wood-fired pizza (I've only ever gotten the pizza) and very nice beer selection. The place I visited this Memorial Day served pizza that was underdone, clunky (not sure how else to describe it) and lacking in flavor. And because of this I have steered clear of them the rest of this summer. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt a bit with this review, because I WANT Blaze to be good (I like the concept and have had positive past experiences). But I also prefer to spend my money on places that are consistent.

My wife and I went to Blaze for dinner on our recent trip from CA to ME. I loved this spot, the food was great. I had the brick oven mozzarella sticks and my wife got the seafood risotto. Both dishes were well prepared and were light but very flavorful. The food isn't the only thing Blaze has going for it. The beer selection was more diverse and well selected than expected. You'd be hard pressed to find a restaurant in the area with better handles from around the state than Blaze! On a final note, we sat at the outside bar which was well attended and comfortable. That said, Blaze is a must visit if you're cruising through Bar Harbor.

Food is actually not bad at all but service is lousy! It was a Sunday evening in summer. It was after 8:00 so ok ok maybe the bartenders felt really tired and understaffed but for god's sake at least acknowledge the presence of your customers and say something like "sorry for the wait, the messy bar" etc. We all have crappy days but it's no excuse to ignore your customers. Peace out!

  • Jack R.

You need to eat and drink here! Great food, great service, phenomenal beer selection and they have salsa!!¡!!1!! I had walked by several times and thought that it looked solid but had never taken the time to peep the menus. We went in tonight and got the BFM Saison and Wanderlust beers- unreal. And in terms of food...wow! Fried haddock tacos that will knock your socks off and the Blaze Burger with a mustard and BBQ sauce that will inspire you to climb the highest peak (in this area, Mt. Cadillac) and scream to the heavens "I LOVE BLAZE!"

  • Sharon G.

Enjoyed a perfectly fabulous lunch with a nice ocean breeze coming through the open doors. The meal and wait staff were both amazing. Definitely checking this off as a place to visit again!

Blaze has the most unique pizza ideas ever! Gourmet flavors and they source their food from local farms, which I appreciate. It was one of our favorite restaurants we went to during our 4 night stay in Bar Harbor. We got to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the weather. The staff was friendly and timely.

While in search for a place for dinner we stumbled upon Blaze, read the menu and thought "why not?" Great selection of drinks. We had poutine for an appetizer that was absolutely delicious! While I had a veggie pizza(amazing) my sister and her husband had the haddock tacos and grilled lobster. They ate every bite! Blaze offers a variety of fare as well as a fresh take on various dishes. Can't recommend it enough!

  • Michele P.

Meh. Lobster rolls came out with obviously turned lobster. Wait and kitchen staff had a debate in the dining area about whether it really was bad (it was) with half agreeing and half disagreeing. Server was extremely nice, but replacement burgers were not anything to write home about. Duck burger was only okay. Pizza looked good. Guess that's what we should have ordered! Should have comped something for the nasty lobstah, but didn't.

Went there for lunch yesterday; great food. We ordered a lobster roll with duck fat fries (so good!) and the vegetable pizza with pesto and basil which was also really good. They have a huge craft beer selection on tap so you will be sure to find a beer to suit your taste. The rest of the menu sounded really good too, I would definitely go back.

One of my friends had recommended this place and said it was the best pizza he had ever had. I dont agree with that however, the pizzas were still above average. Good selection of beers. Nice ambience and great service. Our server, Madelyn was superb. The restaurant not a must-go when in Bar Harbor but still a place where you can relax with beers and pizza.

  • Pete L.

We had the chicken and skirt steak tacos. Both were tasty, but took a long time and were a touch cold when we finally got them. The service was OK, although even at 8 seemed short staffed. The atmosphere was very good though.

Update : We ate here again on our 2nd visit to Bar Harbor and it's still delicious. My only suggestion is to train wait staff a little better on answering questions for those with food allergies. He seemed unsure, so I ordered something else.

Let me start by saying the food was so good that we had dinner here for both the nights we stayed and would have gotten a pizza to go in the morning if they had been open. Our trio landed here after an exciting day at the recommendation of the manager at the inn we were staying. The staff was super friendly. We ordered the garlic flat bread, chicken tacos, chicken BBQ pizza and the wood grill lobster. We didn't come up for air until every scrap of food was gone. All night long and the next day climbing gorah mountain and Cadillac mountain we were daydreaming about that pizza. We all kept talking about other restaurants and then ended with "well I wouldn't mind going to blaze again". Lo, we came back and were greeted by the staff with a " welcome back" . loved that they remembered us. We're on our way back and reminiscing about that pizza. Don't think - go try the tacos and the pizza. You won't regret it.

Blaze has both an outdoor and indoor seating set-up. It kind of has an up-scale feel to it. The food was very enjoyable, but pricey. We enjoyed our meal for sure, but we don't think it was worth the high bill. The service is good, not great. Somewhat cold and not personable. Other places in town have a welcoming, homey vibe to them. This place did not.

  • Eileen F.

Great place - and t's not just for pizza - but the pizza is really good. My husband & I each had a 'build your own' pizza. We don't agree on toppings so we get our own. I had the roasted veggie and it was delish. He ordered spicy sausage, we think he got pepperoni but he didn't say anything to the server and enjoyed it. (It may be their version of spicy sausage.) Anyway, it was good. I observed the staff and have to say what a well oiled machine it is. The hostess was setting tables and doing a few other things in between hosting and answering the phone. Most impressive was the look of the meals coming out of the kitchen. Everything other than the pizza looked like it was being served at a fine dining establishment. Well done!

    (5)
  • John H.

Food is good though the ambience this time seemed less interesting. Duck fat French fries were limp. Brioche on burger was too thick and actually not tasty so I ate the burger without the bread. Lobster pizza was stellar with chèvre.

  • Lucia C.

The first bite of my veggie pizza sent my taste buds into an orgasmic free fall. This was simply the best pizza I've had since the turn of the century. Their gluten free selection is on point, and you can even get soy cheese on the pizza. The atmosphere complimented the delicious flavors perfectly and the wait staff was friendly enough. The drink selection and food options are well above average especially in a tourist town. Prompt service and outdoor heating lamp made this experience well worth the inflated prices

I finally got around to trying Blaze (one of the only pizza places in Bar Harbor I hadn't tried) for a little picnic outside on the first real warm day after a horrible winter. Obviously, we only got takeout so can't comment on much of dining here. My girlfriend echoed that she got the impression it was "uptight" and a little pretentious for a very unpretentious town. Tourists might buy that (maybe?) but nobody living here is going to. This is Maine! Tone it down a little, this isn't the French Laundry, you've got a good looking menu, beer and pizza. That aside, the pizza was really good. Where a slice from Rosalie's can be folded without cracking (a rare feat with pizza in Downeast Maine), Blaze's crust makes it look effortless. It tastes... pretty much like pizza outside of Maine tastes. And should taste. A little yeasty, a nice texture, not too bready and not too crisp. Which is good, and I believe it's probably because most of the pizza ovens in town are woefully underpowered (I have my sources). I appreciate using San Marzanos too. The only thing I wish is that Blaze had some bigger size pizzas. I'd pay a little price premium to get this but their business probably isn't takeout. I'll probably take a chance and dine in here sometime to try some other stuff like the chili and hanger steak but it'd be nice to have some stronger competition in Bar Harbor.

The pizza was ok, beef tips not good at all. Overall it was a disappointment. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are just looking for beer and pizza.

I'd have taken a picture, but there was absolutely nothing left it was just too good. The risotto dish was fantastic, both wood fired scallops and a whole lobster tail. The duck fat fries are the best fries I've ever had. The fish tacos are also wonderful. The sauce is a slightly spicy with a slight sweet taste at the end. We finished it off with the blueberry creme brullee. Don't miss this place!!. They also have a great tap beer selection with some of the best locals including Ellen's coffee vanilla stout.

Visited here with my wife in October 2014. Impressions in order of events. Firstly, the utterly delightful and unbelievably hard working hostess. We didn't have a reservation and they were busy, but without blinking she found us a table and got us settled. Her work rate over the evening was extraordinary. I don't think she stopped moving for more than a minute. Secondly, the décor. Unpretentious, warm, nice bar, with an open kitchen. If I had a quibble, it was that our table was out in the middle of the room and therefore felt a bit like eating in Time Square, but we were lucky to get it, so no complaints. The bar has a fine selection of local and other craft beers and the wine list isn't half bad. Service was fast, efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. I went for the beef tips and the wife for the vegetarian pizza. Probably the best things we ate all trip. Prices very reasonable considering where we were. A definite revisit on the cards next time we're in Bar Harbor.

Five stars is a lot for a place I've visited once, but it's definitely appropriate. Hiked all afternoon with the wife & daughter around Jordan Pond in Acadia and wanted to eat before we made the three-hour drive home. Wifey & I saw Blaze around the corner from where we'd parked. Blaze specializes in barbecue and wood-grilled foods. Long story short - all three of us had remarkable lunches. I, the brisket sandwich; wifey had chicken tacos with a super-tasty & spicy pico-type salsa; daughter had a sausage stromboli. All three were home runs; that's what's driving my high rating. Sometimes one or two items will miss the mark, but not here. The kitchen, with large open-flame grills, was open to the dining room (we sat outside). The kitchen staff appeared focused and I could sense a real buzz among the cooks. The long bar with TVs above the back wall looked to be a great place to watch a game, too. Additionally, their local & New England beer selection was extensive; I appreciated that they had the ABV and provenance of each beer. We try to get to BH as often as we can and will go back at least once more this year; Blaze will definitely be seeing us again.

So it's now been a few years. I figured Blaze is no longer a fledgling restaurant, let's try it again. But I decided to start slowly and ventured in only for a beer. Well, once again Blaze has disappointed. I went in on a Sunday afternoon at the tail end of the season searching for an interesting craft beer. The hostess gave me a list and we went inside to sit at the bar. I noticed far more taps at the bar than on the list, so I got excited at the options. It was then that the bartender came over not to greet me, but to inform me that their cooling system wasn't working (not the way you want to end the season!) and they in fact only had a handful of beers on tap. That's fine; I could find something interesting. Well, several minutes go by, during which time the bartender comes over and actually actively ignores us. I even tried waving him over, which must have rubbed him the wrong way because he did come over but instead of acknowledging us, disappeared below the bar. Oh, and we were only two people at the bar. When your business is hospitality, you should probably have at least a small hospitable bone in your body. I couldn't have felt less welcome. No longer curious to return.

We had a wonderful meal. The duck bruschetta was full of flavor - the manchego was maybe a little too thick a slice and was slightly overpowering but still a tasty app. My step children loved the poutine - duh, french fries with gravy and cheese? Teenage dream, upscaled. Far and away my favorite part of the evening was my actual dinner. The scallop tacos had a flavor that I simply found incredible. The combination of wood fired scallop, kimchi and creama was beyond anything I expected. The rest of my family had the seafood risotto - very tasty, slightly sweet, and a build your own pizza. Dessert was tasty (blueberry cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake) and the coffee was standard. Service was friendly and efficient. I would definitely go back - even if just for those tacos again.

It's a nice place. We stayed in Bar Harbor for 2 nights and both evenings we had dinner at Blaze. The outside seating is perfect for a summer evening, the service is very friendly and the menu is great. There is a huge selection of beers and you can try a few. There are many drafts from local breweries, which is great, it is so important to support small, artisanal breweries. My husband really liked the Baxter and I am not a beer drinker but I really liked the Belgium peach and cherry lambics, they are so light, fruity and sweet, it's like a super light shandy. They have great pizzas made in the wood oven. The wood grilled lobster was ok, the watermelon and strawberry salad was amazing with the sweetest strawberries, delicious goat cheese and really nice balsamic vinaigrette but the pizzas are really the best. Also great to have our dog with us, it's a dog friendly place and its really nice to spend a summer evening and sample a selection of beers with a few delicious bites. Both evenings we had amazing service, really friendly and really nice people, the hostess was also very accommodating, I really recommend this place.

Interesting cocktail selection. I had the Maine Spruce, a mix of whiskey, spruce sprig, apter ok and some flavored sherry. It was tasty and well made. The fish tacos were well done. Accompanying salad was quite tasty. I liked the caramelized onions as the sweet counterpoint to the arugula. The beef for the steak frites seemed rather under-done, the opposite of my normal issue with beef preparation, but easy fixed. Burger was well relieved. Wood-fired pizza looked good. Nice atmosphere. Overall recommend

Tourist prices but they have a nice outdoor area with variety of drinks. They were even open to making a drink not on their menu! They do not have happy hour and 5 of us spent $50 on two drinks each there within an hour. Did not have the food so I cannot comment there.

Huge selection of beer, and great food. The bacon wrapped meatloaf was to die for. I could make a whole meal of the sweet potato, bacon and Brussels sprouts hash as well. We had great service and it's a nice atmosphere for dinner and drinks. Highly recommended!!!!!

I went here twice during a brief vacation to Bar Harbor. I know they have a lot of seafood options but we just went with the pick your own wood fired pizza (wood roasted tomatoes and smoked cheddar was my personal favorite). The pizza was just delicious. The music was good. I am big fan of Down East cider which they have a special version of on tap. We had a very nice server when we came for dinner named Keegan (I think) who was clearly busy but managed to be very friendly and on top of things all the same. Both the dinner and lunch we had here were memorable. We wouldn't come back to bar harbor without visiting again.

This place is for those seeking favors. The chefs and bartenders work with your palate. We added lobster to our pizza and discussed the qualities if beers and spirits. If Scott is working the bar, engage him in conversation.

The restaurant seating was fu so we chose to eat at the bar. Great beer selection with knowledgable bartenders. Excellent service and very attentive. The crab cakes were excellent to start out. We both had the lobster crab risotto which was AMAZING!!

The kitchen is definitely doing the right thing at Blaze. This was my first visit to the restaurant and I was happily suprised. My family enjoyed their meal and my spicy margarita was on point! Next time I am on the island, I will definitely make a stop at Blaze. I recommend highly.

I wish I never went here. The food was horribly overpriced, the portions were small and they overwhelming offered "duck fat fries" on the menu. I did not eat them but they looked disgusting. We paid $50 for lunch for two adults and a baby. That included one soft drink and a milk, no alcohol or appetizer whatsoever. I would not recommend.

Ok... It's downtown and 'smack central of touristville'. So please don't gripe about the tourist prices. I dropped in around lunch so the place was fairly quiet. The food wasn't the best in the world, just about average. The salad had some wilted leaves so ... NOW, onto the PROS of the place - beer, beer and MORE beer (craft off course). The bartender Tony M was outstanding. He is very personable and will assist in every way in picking out a beer from that large list. The beer list is fantastic and definitely one craft beer fans will love. I love that they carry some of the season dogfish beers as well as Maine Beer Company. My party of 4 sampled 8 in total and barely touched the surface our 'must try' crafts. Tony was extremely generous in offering samples and advice which helped narrow down our selection. I'll be back before my mini vacation is over, but only for the beer and hopefully a repeat of the stella service. Cheers...

It was 50 minutes from the time we sat down to the time our waitress brought us our pizza and gazpacho. The pizza sauce did not taste fresh. The cheese was off. The crust was crispy, but flavorless. Definitely never returning.

The beer and pizza were both excellent. As others have noted, it's not cheap but we really liked it. We were on a cruise last summer, this was definite highlight. Hope to go there again some time.

Great service, good beer selection. My husband had the jerk steak tacos and loved them. The duck fat fries were so good! I chose to make my own pizza: BBQ sauce, mozz, ricotta, bacon and pulled chicken. The ingredients really made the food, so much quality in the selection! The only thing that lacked was the dessert menu, but the outdoor seating was gorgeous!

First Time there tonight chicken wing good, pizzas were good lobster roll was good but no better than anywhere else in the harbor area. Duck fat cooked fries were excellent. Server and service was good. Thought $18.00 pizza are over priced and drinks were average and over priced. Atmosphere is good. While I would like to give this 4 stars the pricing is high even by a tourist area standard. There are many places with same style menu with more reasonable pricing. For everything that is a plus the price isn't.

Food was delicious! The duck fat fries with truffle aoli were very tasty and the bacon wrapped meatloaf was fantastic! The beer selection was excellent and included a wide variety of local beers. The bartender was very knowledgeable on all the options. The atmosphere was really nice as well with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was a little slow, but not bad overall.

I'd say the other reviews were spot on - but we went here anyways to give it a shot. The food was underwhelming and the they were definitely understaffed (no bus boys). The waiter got our order wrong twice but at least compensated with 50% off the item. They had a good drink selection and the bartender was pretty good. I'd recommend coming here for a drink and eating elsewhere.

Admittedly I haven't eaten any of the food here (too much of a Chicagoan to even try pizza in New England) but the bar is wonderful. Great beer selection, plenty of choices on tap, and excellent service. Happy hour prices don't hurt, either ;) I'll come back next time I am in Bar Harbor for sure!

Come for the beer. Leave for the food... This would be a one star review if it wasn't for the nice beer selection. The pizza was sub-par. Go to Reel Pizza, Rosalie's or even Mad Hatters for better pizza. Fish tacos were below average. The salad was full of hot, bland vegetables. Weird and gross. They tried to charge me $10 for it, even after I complained. Otherwise, service was fine. The place seems ready for Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. There is no need to suffer through bad food in this town. AVOID!

Superb beer selection, in fact best in Bar Harbor.....overpriced food($14 Turkey Burger..c'mon) and decent atmosphere. Need lower priced appetizers and better food quality for price. The mens bathroom is literally in the kitchen too which is kind of...well....nasty.

RUDE. Waitress was rude as it gets. Terrible service. We got here. they sat us after we stood at the door for 15 minutes and no one else was around. Glassware was dirty. We ordered our beers. Once we were enjoying our drinks the waitress informed us that we would need to move from the table in 30 minutes because they had another reservation for the table at 7. They should not have sat us at a table that they had already booked. So we ordered quickly. 20 minutes later she came back out to inform me they did not have the entree i order... It was CHICKEN! How does a restaurant not have chicken! So after being incredibly rude we decided just to order and appetizer (which was not good) and then we left. Don't waste your time here.

Two Ho hum dinners in Bar Harbor was enough and we hoped that our third would be the charm. Alas, that was not to be. Soon after we ordered our food, a man's granddaughter did a video cast with her mother and the speaker on. The noise was unbearable and I asked the grandfather to get the granddaughter to please hang up. I got no response until another patron came over to the table and said this is a restaurant please hang up the phone. When our food arrived my wife got a salad with a crab cake that she said was good except there was a limited assortment of greens. My older son got an oyster sandwich that he said was bland. My younger son said his meal was fine but he eats anything. Lastly, I ordered a bowl of gazpacho that cost $14. I love this summer time cold soup when it contains seasonal vegetables and some tangy spices. Alas, what I got was a large bowl of soup that would make Campbell's soup seem gourmet .There were a few limp pieces of avocado and the rest was just a cream of tomato. The soup was supposed to be garnished with crab meat. The only crab was Me! The restaurant replaced the soup with a wood fired cheese pizza at my request. That too was a poor choice since it was also tasteless. This meal finally ended with the grandfather at the next table stopping by to berate us because his six year old granddaughter may have heard my son use the the S word in our own private conversation.

Had the pulled pork tacos, wow! Smokey and barbecuey (ya I said it) and the meat melded perfectly with the other toppings. Girlfriend had the black bean and chorizo burger and it was very good too, not to mention unique. Oh, the duckfat sweet potato fries were good, not great. Besides that, the tap beer selection was enough to satisfy a seasoned craft beer drinker plus they have some light beers if you like that stuff. Overall I'd go there again, to try more things, and I don't say that too often. Cheers

Good food, cool beer selection. Bartender was cool. I think his name was Chris. We got a pizza and fish tacos. A nice little break from all the lobster!

A nice place for a pizza, salad, wine, and beer, beer, beer. With a formidable tap list, I can't imagine you're going to find anything comparable in the downtown. I like trying local beer and this was a great way to get familiar. The wine list is good too, if you're so inclined. The food can't approach the beer list, but it is not bad, either. The veggie pizza is a nice version of the classic and enough for two for lunch if you have an appetizer or are not hungry. The crust wasn't as thin as some that I've had but it was substantial, not in an overly heavy way. The salads were good, though not as inspired as some of the other offering, more takes on existing versions (Caesar, etc.). Service was very good and we were seated immediately.

I went to Blaze twice - once for a couple of beers, and once for an appetizer and a beer. In fact, my second visit was to specifically try something I saw on their menu during my first visit. Blaze probably has the largest draft beer selection in Bar Harbor. I didn't count, but I'd estimate about 30 taps - and they even have one cask conditioned. They have mostly New England beers and cover most (typical) styles. Most (all?) things on Blaze's menu are cooked over open flame (wood or lump charcoal). I looked at their menu on my first visit and one appetizer jumped out: grilled duck wings with a habanero sauce! I had the duck wings on my second visit - the concept was a lot better than the execution. The duck wings were less meaty than chicken wings, but consisted of the typical "flats" and drumettes. The habanero sauce was more sweet than hot and there were small bits of bleu cheese crumbles. However, what was a real disappointment was the lack of added character I would have expected from them being grilled over open flame. They should have left them on the grill much longer to develop more browning. Blaze's interior is quite nice - much more modern and new than most places in Bar Harbor. My grilled duck wings were only two stars, but I bumped my rating up one star based on their good beer selection and nice interior. Also, since I don't see duck wings on menus very often, they deserve an extra star for effort!

After cruising Bar Harbor for evah, found a parking spot on a side road. Started walking up the street and saw the sign saying 43 beers on tap, and smelled the wood smoker going. It was the hottest, most humid day in many a year, and maybe we thought we were back in south Florida, but the place drew us in. Had 2 different "local" IPA's (both from Maine) that hit the spot. The son had the local hard cider and it also was very good. For lunch we had the lamb/feta pizza and the beet salad. Tasty and pizza folded in half is needed while holding a semi-sleepy baby. The burger was big, and good. The surprise was the sweet potatoe fries that were fried in duck fat. This will make the trip worthwhile. The waiter was attentive and helpful, good staff overall.

Pros: The restaurant is cool looking, has a nice vibe, is right downtown and has a great outdoor patio. The bartender and waitress were really friendly and nice despite all our issues, even with the two kids we dragged along. Cons: The food couldn't have been worse. It took a long time to arrive. They brought everyone's food and forgot mine - they didn't even notice until I mentioned it. Three people at the table ordered steak and all of it was so overcooked it was inedible. We never send stuff back, but all three went back. They comped all three plates and brought out new ones - and then those were really undercooked! Two of the three had to go back again. The fish tacos were tiny and had no flavor according to my brother in law and my fries were totally undercooked - despite getting sent back and recooked. It saved me some calories I guess, so there's that. I really wanted to like the place, I really did, but it really wasn't worth it. We didn't have any pizza though and from what I saw on other tables, that looked good. Our cocktails were FAB though and because we drank so many of them, it did improve our whole experience :). If you decide to go here, stick to the pizza.... or at least avoid the meat.

Caesar salad is 1/4 of a head romaine served with 1 anchovy and 2 or 3 halved grape tomato, parmesan tuille was stale and soggy, dressing tasted mostly of low quality mayo from a jug. Ordered a coke, got a pepsi without being told that they didn't have coke-don't like pepsi. Local Sausage, Caramelized Onion and Sweet Pepper Pizza was about 14", underrisen, overtopped with mediocre toppings, and baked in a too cold oven for too long- $18. They forgot the broth in the mussels, which were tasty, but bought it out quickly, without prompting, when they realized the mistake. Service was adequate. 2.5 stars

Love the outside dining area. Food is a little overpriced. Our appetizer wasn't super memorable, but I got the seafood risotto and it was fantastic. My fiancé had the bbq chicken pizza and thought it was awesome. They also had an extensive beer selection. Service was good. I will also say that if you are a tourist, this is a great place to go towards the end of your vacation. We had pretty much OD'd on seafood while in Maine. Blaze has some pretty solid looking non-seafood items on their menu (if you made the same mistake we did).

I will most likely never eat lobster again after this.....unless it is prepared on a wood fired stove. I just experienced the best lobster I have ever had at this place. Oh my goodness! It has been a true highlight of my New England vacation. I am so glad the place we wanted to go to was closed and we found this place instead. The salad, corn, and fingerling potatoes were cooked to perfection too. The service was outstanding, as well. I am so happy right now. Thank you, Blaze!

Visiting Bar Harbor for a few days and Blaze was suggested by friends who had vacationed here to go for the wood grilled lobster. It was excellent - the best ever. People we talked to around us also really enjoyed the bacon wrapped meatloaf and the waiter suggested the grilled poster & scallops w/ polenta. We will do this place again!

Food was good, but service was horrible. We were seated for over 30 minutes before the waiter came to take our orders, and then seemed put out that he had to help us. And it wasn't even busy. We had to ask for drinks three times before he finally brought them. If you have 2 hours to spend on lunch and don't mind being ignored, this is the place.

Even if half the town hadn't shut down by the time we took our trip here last fall I would have come back here a second time like we did. The menu seems a little over-ambitious in terms of the sheer number of dishes they offer--to the point that there was a secondary menu showing what was not available as well as specials that were available--but everything we had was really good. They've got a great, thoughtful tap list, when I ordered bourbon I got a really nice pour, and they're really friendly. Oh and when I went to use the men's room I passed the open kitchen. It was one guy, and he was like a magician but a really busy magician who was totally in the zone. I wanted to congratulate him but he was so focused that I figured that would probably annoy him more than make him happy.

Overpriced for food that was just okay. Service and waitstaff, however, were fantastic. Had the BBQ brisket Reuben, which was really nothing special and didn't have much flavor and the fried oyster roll. There were maybe 5 pieces of oyster total. I would be happy to pay higher prices if they reflected the quality of the food, but they do not.

Sat at the bar outside. Bar tender was extremely attentive and friendly. We had the lobster roll with the duck fat fries (delicious with the garlic aioli) and the fig and ricotta pizza... Also delicious! Beer selection was great. Highly recommend!

My wife and I stopped by Blaze for a beer and to relax after a full day in the park and walking around downtown. We really enjoyed ourselves, sitting at the bar and chatting up with the bar tender. He was a witty and funny guy with a great knowledge of the local craft beers on tap, which was quite a nice selection. The only reason I gave Blaze four instead of five stars is that we did not eat there, though we both plan on changing that the next time we are in town. If you happen to be in Bar Harbor and looking for a friendly place, great local craft beers and what seemed like great food, give Blaze a try.

Experience here was great from the start. The hostess couldn't get us a table outside on a beautiful evening, but was more then happy to take our phone number and call when a table in the front window opened. Once seated, we shared the caesar salad which was decent, but the real highlight was the pizza. We tried the pizza with goat cheese, fig, and prociutto and it was awesome. The beer selection was great and the staff was attentive and always willing to make recommendations. I would highly recommend for a relaxing, casual evening in Bar Harbor.

Walking on Bar Harbor's Main Street, a succulent scent of butter engulfed my nostrils and made me hungry for meaty lobster. It was Blaze, a busy beer bar with a cute patio close to the center of town. I couldn't resist and went right in. The staff at Blaze is very friendly and engaging. Our server checked on us often and offered detailed answer to our many questions. We sat on the back of the patio right next to the kitchen. The door was open and allowed us to see a lively bunch of cooks preparing meals with passion. The beer selection is impressive. If you are from out of town, try the blueberry beer. It is a Maine classic, stronger and tastier than other places in town. We ordered the seafood chowder to start. The mussels, clams and tiny shrimp were very soft and buttery, and almost melted in my mouth. Unfortunately, the milky broth was too soupy and lukewarm. Then came the lobster, well presented on a wooden board. It was large, meaty and well-buttered. It could taste the sea in each bite, which told me the lobster was fresh. The corn that accompanied was soft, sweet and also very buttery, though not overwhelmingly so. The side fingerlin potatoes were undercooked though. We tried them stopped eating at once. Our bill was a little over $40.00, which I found affordable.

This place has a major identity problem. Is it local food, sophisticated raw bar or wood grill pizzeria? All of the above. Is it a restaurant, a bar or a club best for picking up drunk girls? All of the above. Service was sloooow and food was mediocre. It gets a star for its extensive beer list and very friendly waitress. Other than that, run by rookies.

Day one in Bar Harbor, waiting for our friends to arrive in town and wayyyy too lazy to cook dinner at the campsite, we needed food and wanted to enjoy the picture perfect weather. Perhaps we ordered the right things and got lucky with service but we loved it here. Beer selection is ridiculous. We ordered the poutine to start and split the fig and prosciutto pizza. Poutine was delicious (as a Canadian transplanted to Massachusetts I am always on the search for a delicious poutine and the pizza was phenomenal. We asked for it extra crispy and it came out cooked just right. I was debating between giving this place 4 or 5 stars. The one issue is that it is pricey but I needed to remind myself that this is a prime location so the prices are going to be on the higher side.

My wife had the lobster roll. Great flavor but lobster to roll ratio could have been better. Chowder was wonderful with huge chunks of clams. Not too thick but still creamy. Scallop and lobster risotto was perfect. Whole lobster tail, wood smoked scallops, great flavor. Ellen's stout beer is to die for. Great beer selection generally. This is now our go-to place in Bar Harbor.

I made a reservation and when my wife, son and I arrived we had to wait another 20 minutes until our table was ready. Strike one. The beer selection is good. That was a plus. The duck fat fries were soggy and the air that is filled with the sweet smell of wood charcoal never makes its way into the food. The vegetables lacked any of the wood oven/grill taste. Needless to say I won't be back for the food. Maybe just a beer at the bar.

Blaze does beer. They really get it. 32 taps, and extensive bottle menu. Even a little beer course written at the bottom of the menu to help you pair with your food. The beer is perfect and they have a full bar with all the standards to compliment. The food menu is pretty ambitious. There are some really enticing and creative options like a wood roasted lobster and a grilled fruits de mar. They also cover all the wood grilled pub food basics: burgers, steaks, pizzas and duck fat fries. From experience I can tell you that the steaks and pizzas were really good and the fries were phenomenal. The menu is pretty light on vegetarian dishes, but there were enough options to put together a substantial meal. The service was fully adequate for a pub style dining experience. Perhaps the fact that the place is quite gorgeous looking is why people are expecting more fine dining service. The restaurant is sleek and modern, with high back leather chairs, deep red walls and dark wood fittings. It almost seems more urban than one would expect for bar harbor. The outside patio was clean, accessible and well lit. We were not left in the dark. It was a great place to get in some lively conversation and people watching I'm giving Blaze four stars because, compared to some other reviews my experience was really good. Seriously, you all had me a little worried that I wanted to check this place out! Went went with a party of four on July 3rd. The place was seriously busy. The host at the door seemed a bit flustered but got us in to our [reserved] table right away outside on the patio. A friendly waitress came right over with menus and gave us [at our request] a few minutes to check them over. (brace yourselves, here comes the worst part) In placing our drink orders [two beers, a lemonade, and a scotch] our friend had asked the waitress what they have for Irish whiskey and she had to admit that, while they do have a lot of whiskeys, she wasn't really sure which ones were Irish. Not some life altering event, but probably a little server education on the booze is in order. Drinks were delivered as ordered in a timely fashion, given how busy the place was with one bartender [under 5 minutes]. When she came back, our waitress was ready to take our food order. 2 steak frites, fish tacos, and a 'make your own' pizza [which I was sure was going to trip things up after reading reviews]. She hurried off, only to come back a minute later to ask us which flavor of aioli we would like with our fries. No big ordeal, and kudos to her for coming back to ask rather than guessing or forgetting. Just as we were finishing our first round, our server showed up with our food [about a 20 minute wait time] and got us another round of drinks. Everything was prepared as ordered, hot and delicious. We cleared our plates! My steak was really good, in fact...and given the cost of beef these days, a total steal! My wife's pizza was hot and exactly as she wanted it. We all had nothing but great things to say about the food..

I like Blaze. I don't always seem to be in the majority, and I agree with most that the potential in this place isn't really reached, but all in all its a good dinner at a reasonable price (for Bar Harbor). I've eaten here a few times and I mostly stick to burgers and pizza (I think their pizza is the best on the island), and its always really solid. Their fries are great, really a solid dish, especially with the garlic aioli, the burgers are good-not-great. Pizza is wood-fired and good, but not up to my New York standards, the BBQ chicken is really a pretty solid pie. The entrees look decent, but there are better places in town to drop $30 on an entree. I would recommend for pizza and burgers (and probably drinks, but I've never imbibed).

Beer: The selection of craft beers is top notch, and the main reason for my rating. It includes a number of excellent beers from around Maine, and not only the flagship style from each brewery. The prices are very reasonable for this selection in a tourist area, $5 or $6 for 16 oz pours, sometimes 12 oz for stronger beers. There was also a "reserve draft" list with smaller (8 oz) pours of strong beers that are not often seen on draft (also $5 each). I had a barleywine from Black Bear brewery out of Orono. Food: we came for a late night snack and not a full dinner, splitting an order of poutine and a crab cake burger. The poutine was pretty good, I've only had it twice before in my life so don't have much to compare it to. The crab cake burger I thought was really good. Service: Very good, attentive and knowledgable server.

Blaze restaurant was recommended by someone at the local brewery. The service was great and the burger was truly one of the best I have ever eaten. They cook over a wood fire and you could taste it in the burger. They also have an excellent selection of beers on tap. We recommended blaze to another couple on the cruise and when we ran into them later, they thanked us profusely. She had the burger and also said it was the best she had eaten and he had the lobster and described it as outstanding.

We wandered in here after 9:30 p.m. without a reservation. The staff was accommodating and helpful. The food was surprisingly good--nothing really adventurous or what you would call fine dining, but it was exactly what we were looking for--good quality, informal atmosphere, less-than-multi-course dinners. The chorizo-black-bean burger was "awesome," according to my wife, and the pulled-pork tacos were excellent. Great beer selection at reasonably prices. We were delighted to hae found this place, and would definitely go back if we return to Bar Harbor.

Based on the reviews and our experience, don't show up here starving. While our food was quite good (I ordered the shrimp tacos and my indicted co-conspirator ordered the grilled vegetable lasagna), it took more than 45 minutes to get our meals. The server was apologetic, and we heard him fielding complaints from nearby tables about the wait for food - it sounds like the kitchen needs to improve their planning. The portions were just right, which meant we had room for dessert, but because of the long wait for our meals, we decided to go elsewhere.

Horrible service. Made reservation for 7 outside. Seated inside. Drinks took over 20 minutes. Salad took 45 minutes. Still waiting for meal and it had been an hour and 10 minutes. Manager did comp the drinks but it was way too long of a wait. Food was good, not great.... Not worth the wait. Shame as the place is cool.

I really, really wanted to like Blaze. I love craft beer. I love burgers. This really should have been a slam dunk.. In terms of the restaurant itself - It had a nice bar area and an outdoor patio, which is a great place to soak in some nice Bar Harbor evenings. We opted to sit indoors. I didn't really notice too much about the other surroundings of the place, to be honest. I read the reviews before heading over and saw that the service has been known to be rather slow. All of them were from last year and I was hoping that with the new season, the kitchen would have improved slightly. Not quite so.. I was with a part of six for a 6:30pm reservation this past Sunday evening. It was busy, but not totally swamped. I believe the party was seated on time, but I can't be entirely sure, as I did arrive a few minutes late. Our drinks came out quickly, and were refilled promptly throughout the evening. But, as other reviewers have said, don't come here hungry. The only way it could have taken longer was if they were out back slaughtering the animals for our burgers. And after climbing in Acadia all day, I was in no mood to be trifled with when it came to my food. The waitress apologized for the wait, and gave us some complimentary (and tasteless) bread and we continued to wait. It took about 40 minutes for 6 burgers to be brought to our table. We were so ecstatic at the idea of food that we promptly started eating. Soon after we realized that two of the six burgers in the group were incorrect. Seriously? Complimentary (very tasty and flavorful) chips were brought out so that my friend and I wouldn't gnaw off our arms while watching the rest of our party eat their burgers. Finally, FINALLY our burgers arrived and when it did mine was just.. okay. My first batch of sweet potato fries had been charred, the second were totally undercooked. But, I was starving, so I ate. The general consensus at the table was that the burgers were good, but not great. Despite everything, I have to say that our waitress was lovely. She was obviously apologetic and tried her best to make sure that we'd have a good meal. Unfortunately, she has no control over the speed in which the kitchen can turn out meals. After all was said and done, I was a little surprised when the check came that between the ridiculous wait for food, 1/3 of the orders being incorrect, and more ridiculous waiting - that nothing was taken off our bill. I wasn't expecting a totally free meal, but it would have been good customer service to perhaps offer a complimentary drink. A dinner of burgers and beers should NOT take two hours to complete.

Great beer selection. Had a very good meal: duck spring rolls that were in a delicious sauce, sweet potato fried that we're fried in duck fat with different aioli sauces, and a duck pizza with fig reduction and chèvre cheese. Paired with a local Maine brew, the Wicked IPA. Food was great, service was so-so. Not bad, just slow and kind of felt ignored.

Tough reviews here on yelp. It was late and everything was closed so Blaze, open till 11, got a chance. First, the notes about the wait are entirely accurate. From arrival to food took an hour. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. Most importantly, food was just fine. I had the black bean burger, cajun style. Tasty! Nothing spectacular but not bad at all. Lots off micro brews on tap too. All in all a fine place. I won't rush back. But speedy service in a vacation time isn't that important to me. "Slow but yummy" echoed my friend.

Blaze opened for the first time last night. I was staying in a motel accross the street with my two boys. I couldn't venture too far away from the motel for fear it would burn to the ground in my absence, so I ran accross the street to Blaze, not realizing it was opening night. Blaze feels much more like a bar than a restaurant. Being a non-drinker and in a hurry I ordered food to go and sat down to wait. Taking in the ambience, I'd say Blaze is well set up for groups of people looking to drink a few and have basic food. There were way too many staff for the number of customers and the size of the place, but i suppose that was on account of it being opening night. The crowd was a mix of townies wanting check out the new place and downeast hipsters. The couple wearing matching white stocking caps in August were definately too cool for Bar Harbor. The food took a very long time to come (I was watching the time as I wanted to get back to my youngsters). I had carne asada tacos and some sweet wings. The wings were chewy and should have been crispier on the outside. The tacos tasted great, but the only thing in my to go box was tortillas and carne asada. No garnish, no tomatoes, no lettuce, no cheese, no avocado, no nuthin. A handful of cabbage, salsa and cheese would've been appreciated. Blaze is a good looking place with lots of potential- it should be good once they get up and running.

Made two stops at Blaze. This place has a great business model, craft beer (35 taps and one beer engine) and wood-grilled pub fare. They are missing the mark inexecution though. Trip #1 I struck out on 3 advertised taps (kicked) but left with some of the best fries ever. They claim they are cooked in duck fat. Better than most "frites" I've gotten elswhere. I got a heaping portion, blazing hot with a cajun aioli for $4.00 and had a Allagash Prince Tuesday on draught while I waited. Killer on both counts and enjoyed the fries in the park with my wife and son overlooking the harbor. WIN! Trip #2 after my palate was wetted I returned with wife and child in tow on only to be let down. After seating ourselves we were promptly forgotten about. After about 10 minutes (the place only had a few other parties). Our waiter then took our order and would not bring me the beer I had been so desperately waiting for. I had to go to the bar to obtain for myself. Our food ranged from very good (pizza and fries) to poor (the 1/2lb Angus $11.00 hamburger, which I had ordered medium and arrived well done, dry, and warm to the touch, not to mention NOT a 1/2# burger). Overall the beer selection is wide but hit-or-miss, the service is slow and inattentive, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is hit-or-miss. Fairly dissapointed though, I would probably go back to sit at the bar for beers, fries, and pizza however. Too bad though because Bar Harbor desperately needs a proper beer bar with good food. They have plans to open another one in Bangor with 50 taps, which begs one to consider maybe they should get this one right first?

Second time at Blaze. First time was just ok. The service here is lacking but the place itself has a lot of potential. The beer selection is quite good. I had the steak soft tacos and they were fabulous! I'm excited for them to open in Bangor.

great concept (microbrews and wood fired grill)... but the kitchen has a LONG way to go. Mussels were so so. Duck Confit fries were soggy and pretty terrible. Risotto had good flavors, but was completely overcooked and mushy. they brought out a terribly undercooked pork chop not once, but twice, and on the third time still tried to charge us for that entree. If they are still in business next summer, they might have worked things out by then, but definitely recommend avoiding for now.

This is a new place in Bar Harbor. They've only been open around a week. My wife and I went there last night and it is clear that they're still a little rough around the edges. My overall impression is that this place has a lot of promise, but they need to work on some things. As others have noted, their beer selection is very good. They have 32 beers on tap, far more than any place I know of in Bar Harbor. They have many Maine micro-brews on tap. They're almost too Maine-focused for my taste. I'm glad they serve Maine beer, but I wouldn't mind seeing some other good craft beer on tap as well: Southern Tier, Dogfish, etc. Most beers are $5 for a pint, which seems very reasonable for good craft beer on tap. Their selection is very good, and far better than anything else Bar Harbor has to offer. Their cuisine centers around their wood-fired oven. They have a selection of pizzas and some other dishes roasted or otherwise wood-fired. I would characterize their menu as wood-fired pub fare. My wife and I had a pizza which was good, but not great. We also had two sides of veggies which were nicely prepared, but the portions were a little small. Our pizza was fine, but they were having some trouble with their oven. We overhead them explaining to another table that the oven wasn't as hot as they wanted and so orders were taking longer than usual. Overall our meal was good, but unremarkable. A serious limitation is that that the menu does not have many vegetarian options. A few salads and a veggie burger would be welcome additions. Their menu is very meat-centric. The atmosphere was somewhere between a bar and a restaurant. The service was very friendly but a little slow. I got the sense that everyone in the place was in the process of learning the ropes. If they expand their menu and figure out how to keep their oven sufficiently hot, I can see this being a place I would return to frequently. If not, I project this as a place I would like to go for a good beer every now and then, but that I wouldn't go to for dinner.

I read everyone else's reviews before writing this and was shocked how negative most of the reviews are. We liked this restaurant so much we went 2 nights in a row! The 1st night we each had 2 pound lobsters, a special, and at $24 a great deal. They were steamed perfectly and came with grilled fingerling potatoes and grilled corn which was delicious. The lobsters were better than any other restaurant lobsters we have had. Of course from the lobster pounds they are better but this being a restaurant is a different experience. The next night we shared the "fruits de mer?" not sure the spelling or exact name. This was not as great as we expected as the lobster was way undercooked on the wood fire. All the other components were perfect and the scallops possible the most delicious thing ever. While we were raving over the seafood bounty the people at the next table were saying the same about their pizza. Our dinner included in addition, large shrimp, oysters, clams, crab and mussels. Hopefully it will include the sweet grilled corn in the future. Our dinners were served in a timely manner for cooked to order meals, teh wait staff friendly and professional. All in all our new favorite dinner spot in Bar Harbor specially since most of our old favorites are not as good as they once were.

I had the duck spring rolls and mixed bbq plate and a couple local microbrews. After eating lobster for days on end I needed a break. The mixed plate was just what I needed - chicken, pork, and beef - not a shell or scale in sight. Bbq was done well, very moist with a trio of sauces on the side. The sides were terrific. The garlic sauce on the brussel sprouts would make an old shoe taste good. Large portion, glad we stopped in.

The freshest new place in Bar Harbor. It had been open just 2 months when we visited. I should note that we ate outside, because Columbus Day weekend was warm and lovely. Given there is a sports bar inside, I probably wouldn't have liked it nearly so much if we had to eat inside. I had for appetizer the crab and avocado gazpacho -- a truly inspired idea and excellent execution. My husband''s appetizer he also loved, so much that I didn't get a taste! Our entrees were perfectly done -- we did NOT order pizza but each had one of the evening's specials. Both were outstanding. While the waiter apologized several times for the delay in service, it didn't exist. There were two othe people attending to our needs in addition to our primary waiter. The beer selection met hubby's discerning desires and my mixed drink was large, made exactly to my specifications and not so expensive as many other places. Dessert selection wasn't huge, but all tempting. And the coffee was outstanding. Usually in the evening I put milk in coffee -- this was very strongly flavored but not at all bitter. Drank it black. We had been told ahead of time that they had "kinks to work out" -- probably true for any new restaurant. We had an excellent experience with oustanding food. We look forward to going back!

So much potential... needs work. As others have said service is a little slow. We knew this and weren't in a rush but it was noticable. Even in a nice slow meal drinks shold come quikly so you have something to talk over. I think our waiter was good but it seemed the other help wasn't keeping up enough or something. The food was fabulous in places and needed work in others. Beer selection obvously good, mixed drinks were good too. all of our apps were good. Goat cheese stuffed peppers get a special mention here. We got the rotating cheese plate, but the person serving it didn't let us know what it was - our waiter was a bit anoyed when he found out and quickly filled us in. Main course we got venison burgers, turkey tacos and beef tacos. The venison was dry but tasty. The buns were fancy and had good taste but seemed stale. The turkey tacos were intentionaly cold which was just unexpected. The beef tacos were quite good. The outdoor seating was nice, but the last few tables back seem unfinished. We sat in the last table. The nice fence and lighting ended before our table and we were next to the kitchen door which had some harsh light from a fridge. I really like what they are trying to do and hope they work the kinks out. if i am back in Bar Harbor I'll check yelp to see if they've have.

Lots of good choices here. Really nice selection of wood fired pizzas that live up to the description. We were happy with everything we ordered. Started with the terrificly crispy duck fat fries with a light truffle aioli. The duck salad was perfect--rare breast meat with a generous combination of walnuts, oranges and chèvre. The pizzas were creative combos; we ordered one white crab arugula, and a local sauage-bacon combo. The atmosphere is upbeat and the bartender makes a good mojito. In a town full of great choices, Blaze is a good Bar Harbor option.

Great craft beers and the ribeye was so big I could barely finish it. My wife loved the Fig pizza. We would definately return but call ahead since it gets really busy.

We went for lunch. Had the duck tacos, duck pizza and their signature fries. The duck tacos were probably the best pick. Full of meat get the sour cream on side for some moisture. The pizza was nice but not great. With all the good ingredients, it somehow ended up on the bland side. Nicely filling for one active, hungry person. The fries were okay but soft and a bit soggy with oil. Very bummed by that. Service was good, helpful. Two lunches, one fry, one tea= $40 with tip.

Tried this place last night. Excellent beer selection. Appetizers were good - shrimp cocktail and chili lemongrass chicken wings. Wings had nice wood flavor and enough char to them. Had the sausage burger which was good but was missing the caramelized onions and provolone. Service can be improved - wasn't the friendliest and was very slow. There is potential here when the bugs get worked out.
